Richard Eugene Black "Gene"

Richard Eugene Black “Gene”, 83 passed away on July 22, 2020 at Sunrise Brighton Gardens of Charlotte Assisted Living.  Gene grew up in Charlotte and lived here most of his life.  He was the youngest of seven children born to Wilder and Campbell Parham Black.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his two brothers; John Black and Robert Black and three sisters; Joy Black, Mary Ann Black Butler and Alice Black Jarrell

He is survived by his brother, Joe Black; his nephew, Donnie Butler(Donna Salter Butler), sister-in-law, Ruby Heafner Black, many nieces and nephews, and even great nieces and nephews along with his long time friend of 50 years, Tom Hayes.

Gene was a Navy Veteran who served our country from 1954-1958.  After completing his military service, Gene worked for over 30 years with the Charlotte Fire Department driving fire trucks.  He lived in the Dilworth Section of Charlotte for many years.  

We will miss our “Genie Beanee” or Johnny Mack Nublet as we called him over the years. Special thanks to the staff of Sunrise Brighton Gardens of Charlotte and to Hospice and Palliative care of Charlotte, NC.
