Robert Webb "Bob" Brame, Sr. of Indian Land, SC, but formerly of Charlotte, died on Wednesday,February 23, 2011 after a long illness. He was 73 years old. Bob was born on May 25, 1937 in Charlotte and was the second child of his late parents Edgar Thomas Brame and Gladys Webb Brame. His father was a North Carolina state highway engineer and the family lived in several cities around the state during his childhood. They eventually settled down in Sanford, North Carolina where Bob graduated from Central High School (Class of 1955). He went on to earn a B.A. degree in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bob enjoyed a 34-year career working with Piedmont Welding Supply Company (later named Sunox) in Charlotte and retired in 1997. He was a member and elder of South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. During his retirement, he volunteered with Crisis Assistance Ministry and the Shepherd's Center South. This work was his passion and resulted from his concern and desire to help others who were less advantaged. Bob also had a lifelong love of reading,writing, woodwork, and variety of music. His reading interests ranged from literature to philosophy and theology while his writing included poetry, essays, and historical fiction. Most of all, Bob loved people and had many treasured friendships from various facets of his life. The family would like to expressly thank Dr. Selwyn Spangenthal and his staff for their friendship and kindness through the years. The joy of his life was his surviving wife, Helen Ligon Brame, to whom he was married for 48 years. He is also survived by his four children, Robert (Jr.) and his wife Virginia, Jessica Dey and her husband Stephen, Benjamin and his wife Cindy, and Thomas and his wife Alison, and his two aunts, Sarah Jordan and Helen McEwen. Bob was blessed with 13 grandchildren and cherished the time he was able to spend with each of them. His brother Edgar Thomas Brame II predeceased him in 1986.
