Ronald J "Ron" Henkel, 74, entered into eternity with Jesus early on Friday morning, July 28, 2017. Ron was born in St Louis MO, the only son of Alphonse Henkel and Stella Furrer Schardan. Ron's immediate family includes his wife, Ruth, and daughters Jennifer Henkel Briede (husband Rob and children Benjamin, Eli and Isabella) and Amanda Henkel Harner (husband Matt and children Emma, Michael and Tristan). Ron also has two step-sisters, Pattie Heath and Betty Banjak. Ron and his family are long time members of Messiah Lutheran Church in Charlotte where Ron has served as usher, Elder, Communion Assistant, Congregational President, and prayer partner for his Pastor during those years. Ron and Ruth's ministry focus has always been outreach evangelism, Christian education, and missions. The majority of Ron's professional career was in the retail furniture industry where he was a store manager for several major furniture chains and owner/manager of his own retail furniture business. In 1999 the Lord changed the direction of Ron and Ruth's lives and they began serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators, assigned to the JAARS Center in Waxhaw, NC. During his time there he served as an Inter-organizational Liaison, Director of the Vernacular Media Services Department, and Management Consultant for an entity in the Eurasia Area. Ron is remembered by his family and friends for his fun loving personality. He always enjoyed a good laugh and making those around him smile. Ron's genuine caring manner put people at ease. Many will remember him for his kindness. He was proud of his family. He loved them well. Because Ron knew he was blessed, he was able to pour that blessing out to others. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to a fund established in Ron's honor at Messiah Lutheran Church, 8300 Providence Rd, Charlotte NC 28277. The fund will be distributed to non-profits at the family's discretion. -
