Ruth A. Hansen

Ruth Aldridge Hansen who resided at Plantation Estates in Matthews, NC, passed away in her apartment on April 9, 2013, surrounded by her loving family - her husband, Hap and her children, Karen and Kent. Ruth is survived by her husband of 67 years, Wilmer "Hap" Hansen; her daughter, Karen H. Schulze residing in Philadelphia, PA with Marshall Asnen; her son, Kent A. Hansen residing in Boulder, CO with his wife, Cathy; her grandchildren, Kristen S. McDermott residing in Mount Pleasant, SC with her husband Jason, and Derek R. Schulze living in Charlotte with his wife Jennifer and their two children - Sydney Anne and William Hudson, Ruth's great grandchildren. Ruth was born in Baltimore, MD and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After graduation in 1945, she married Hap, an Ensign in the US Navy. In 1952 Ruth and her family moved to Wilmington, DE, where they would reside for the next 48 years. While living in Wilmington, Ruth enjoyed volunteering with the following organizations: * Junior Board of the Memorial Division, Wilmington Medical Center * Delaware Alumni Association of Kappa Kappa Gamma * Wilmington City Panhellenic Association * St. John's Episcopal Church * American Association of University Women * Alfred I. DuPont Childrens' Hospital One of the highlights of her life was her involvement with the Winterthur Museum. After beginning in 1963 as a volunteer for the Spring Tour, Ruth went on to a 25 year career as a Guide. Additionally she enjoyed several arts-oriented trips abroad organized by the Museum guides. Her service is remembered with an honorary bench that sits near the main entrance to the Museum. In 2000 Ruth and Hap moved to Plantation Estates. While they continued to pursue their hobby of traveling, Ruth also participated in the following activities: * Plantation Estates Journal * Selection Committee for the Weekly Movie * Bridge Night In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in memory of Ruth A.
