Wilbur Mack (Sandy) Withrow, Jr. 62, of Charlotte, died peacefully while in the loving company of his brother, Andy Withrow and his wife, Kathy, of cancer, Tuesday evening, November 2, 2010, at the Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital. The son of the late, Wilber Mack Withrow, Sr., a decorated WWII veteran, Sandy's immediate family, in addition to his brother, Andy, includes his mother, Kay Beaumont; his sisters, Kathy Hunter, of Dallas, and Patty Garrison, of Emerald Isle; his nieces and nephews, Katy, Mindy, Madison, John, and Scott. A native of Charlotte, Sandy in his early years had been employed with the American Red Cross, was a bartender at the Cellar Night Club, and for over 23 years was a courier with Quest Diagnostics along with his supervisor and good friend, Andy Polyzos. During the Vietnam Era, he served between 1966 and 1972 in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Sandy will be fondly remembered for his kind attitude, generosity, his longtime love for the beach, and his weekly patronage to his favorite restaurants: the K & W Cafeteria and Park Café. His family would like to expressly thank his sister-in-law, Kathy Withrow, RN, the Harris Hospice Unit and Presbyterian Hospice and Palliative Care staffs, Dr. Patricia Boyer, Dr. Grant Taylor, and the team at Oncology Specialists of Charlotte for their exceptional care.
