Vernon Lee (Sonny) Helms,Jr., 75, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014, unexpectedly at home. Born in Union County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon L. Helms, Sr. and Lula Mae Griffin Helms; his sister, Christine Hamby; and his grandson, Noah Lee Helms. Sonny's immediate family includes his wife, Jackie Helms; his children, Scott L. Helms, Anthony Wayne Helms, and Kelly Marie Sprouse; brothers, Johnny, Carl, Jimmy, and Charles Helms; his sisters, Nancy Anaya, Janie Sackinger, and Linda Witherspoon; six grandchildren. -
