Stephen Ellis Lawson, 59, of Charlotte, NC passed away on August 1, 2018. Steve was born October 31,1958 in Denver, Colorado, and grew up in Houston, Texas, at Champions Golf Club. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1980 with degrees in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering and had recently retired from working at General Electric in the Power Systems business. The majority of Steve's career was spent in Charlotte, North Carolina with his wife, Jeanne, and children, Greg and Kristen. He was a devoted husband and father and loved the time he spent coaching Greg's youth baseball teams and Kristen's youth soccer teams. He truly cherished the lifelong friendships that he developed throughout the years; he was a kind-hearted man known to drop anything to help a friend or loved one. He treasured the mountains and the outdoors, and despite a five-year battle with RSD (CRPS), he had a passion for mountain biking. Steve's other passions included eating barbeque, listening to music and reading books. Steve's retirement plans were to venture out west to mountain bike, but his life was unfortunately cut short by aggressive stage IV stomach cancer. His friends and family will miss his humor, thoughtfulness and intelligence. Steve is preceded in death by his parents; Robert Ellis and Doris Gaddie Lawson. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jeanne; son Gregory (Kiersten) of Raleigh, NC; and daughter Kristen of Boston, MA; brother Jeffrey (Kimberly) of Houston, TX. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Carmel Baptist Church at 1145 Pineville-Matthews Rd, Matthews, NC 28105 on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11:00 am.
