Tempie Murphy Mullis

Tempie Murphy Mullis, 81, of Monroe, NC, formerly of Charlotte,  passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Clear Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mint Hill, NC. Tempie was born March 30, 1939 in Anderson, SC, a daughter of the late Joe Murphy and Hazel Whitfield Murphy. She graduated from Harding High School, Charlotte, NC in 1957 and attended Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Mint Hill  She was employed at various corporations, including Union Carbide,Delmar Studios, and PCA/Herff Jones, from which she retired in 2004. While she was employed outside the home, Tempie was also a devoted wife and mother who worked tirelessly to help provide for and take care of her family. She was a fabulous country cook, loved her flowers and gardening, and enjoyed giving her family a huge Christmas every year. Tempie was a warm person who was funny and feisty and generous and giving. She adored her family - both immediate and extended - and would always greet you with her beautiful smile.
In addition to her parents, Tempie was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel Paul Mullis; three sisters, Hamlet Brigman, June Crane and Adina Shuping; and the love of her life and husband of 53 years, Boyce Reid Mullis.  She is survived by sons, Joe Mullis and wife, Jill, and Randy Mullis;  daughter, Robin Mullis Franklin and husband, Mark, all of Monroe; six grandchildren, Bo Abernathy, Luke Abernathy, Brett  Abernathy, Hunter Mullis, Sam Mullis and Logan Mullis.

 A graveside service to celebrate Tempie’s life will be held on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memory Memory Gardens, Mint Hill, officiated by her son, Rev. Joe Mullis. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
