Tommy Collins Parker

Tommy Collins Parker was born on August 19, 1937, in Monroe NC. Tommy was the tenth of eleven children born to Earl and Lola Parker. He had 10 brothers and sisters: Cul Parker Annie Lee Parker Mower Earl "June" Parker Britt Parker Doc Parker William Parker Bobbie Parker Carr "Shine" Parker John Parker Jimmie Parker Peggy Parker Mills Tommy moved to Charlotte to work as a surveyor. From there, he drove a bus for the City of Charlotte. His wife, Peggy, rode the bus to work, daily, at Duke Power and met Tommy while he was driving her route. They married in 1968 and have been married for 48 years. When Tommy married Peggy, he was blessed with two young sons, Tony and Michael. He loved Tony and Michael dearly and raised them as his own. In 1969, Tommy and Peggy were blessed with a daughter, Kimberly Dawn. Unfortunately, they only had Kim in their life for a brief time, as she lost her battle with Leukemia. In late 1970, they were blessed with another son, Scott. Scott has lived with them for the last number of years and has cared for his father and mother, during these difficult months. Tommy and Peggy suffered another great loss when they lost Michael, suddenly, in 2006. Tommy was a strong man and a good man. He loved all of his family, dearly, and worked hard to provide and care for everyone. He raised three great men and taught them the importance of honesty, hard work, and making sure others are taken care of. When his daughter-in-law, Chellie joined the family, he had another daughter and loved and protected her as if she were his own. Tommy and Peggy have been blessed with 5 grandchildren, Michael Phifer, Jr, Dustin Phifer, Matthew Phifer, Zachary Phifer, and Colton Parker. They also have been blessed with two great grandchildren, Hunter Phifer and Elise Phifer. He loved them dearly and was very proud of all of them. Tommy ended his career as a tractor trailer truck driver. He worked long hours to provide for his family and was very well respected in the industry. He enjoyed working on projects. He was very handy and could build or repair about anything. He had a shop where he liked to work on vehicles (loved his personal truck), lawn mowers, wood working, and anything else the rest of us needed repaired. He also loved spending time with his brothers and sisters and their spouses, including Friday Night dinners at the Fish Camp, Beach trips, and Saturday mornings at the "Ponderosa" (Brother Bill's family farm), solving the world's problems. His sons and grandchildren will dearly miss his love, guidance, and support. Tommy was the love of Peggy's life and she will miss him dearly. Peggy is very thankful to family, friends, and all of the doctors and nurses that have cared for Tommy and supported her in these last months. Peggy believes that there are angels among us and wanted to share this thought that she reads often: Sometimes we feel we are alone, as life brings us challenges to overcome and hardship to bear, but when we least expect it, help can appear. It may be a kind word from a stranger or a phone call, at just the right time, and we are suddenly surrounded with the loving grace of God. Miracles happen every day, because angels are everywhere. Rest in peace, Tommy, Dad, Paw Paw. We love you! -
