Walter Baldwin, known by many as Walt, was born on February 23, 1930, in Plainwell, Michigan. He peacefully passed into his Savior's presence on August 7, 2024, in Matthews, North Carolina, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will be cherished by his family and friends.
Walt and his wife Donna Kay devoted over six decades of their life to serving the Lord through various missions, including the Navajo Gospel Mission in Arizona, Tecate Mission in California, and Wycliffe Bible Translators in Brazil and Peru. They concluded this remarkable journey of service with JAARS in Waxhaw, North Carolina.
Walt was a proud veteran, having served in the US Army. His sense of duty and commitment were evident in his faith and his military service. Walt attended school in Plainwell, later furthering his education at Bob Jones University.
Walt was known for his kind and humble spirit, always willing to lend a hand to those in need, and his gentle and soft-spoken manner. With his quick smile and sparkle in his eye, sense of humor, and artistic talent, he had the ability to lighten any room he entered. He was not just a craftsman and inventor but also loved gardening and nurturing plants with a tender touch that brought life and beauty to his surroundings. Saturdays were when he made his waffles and loved to share them with family and friends.
His devotion to family was evident in every aspect of his life. He was proceeded in death by his wife Donna Kay of 60 years. Walt enjoyed spending time with his children and their families: Melody Hibbard and her husband Keith, Donald Baldwin and his wife Kris, Bonnie Horneman and her husband Robert, and Brenda Woods and her husband Craig. His grandchildren—Brandon, Jordan, Jessica, Ben, Katherine, Anna, Raven and Wyatt. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Jackson, Logan, Caleb, Grayson, Junia, and Harley.
Walt is warmly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him for his gentle nature, sense of humor, and artistic ability—be it painting, pottery, or woodworking. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith to those who loved him and knew him.
As we mourn the loss of Walt, we also celebrate a life beautifully lived, one anchored in faith and love for family. His absence will be felt profoundly; however, the memories we hold dear will continue to inspire us to reflect his spirit of generosity and joy.
Until we are together again in Heaven, we love you and miss you, Daddy!
