William Allen Austin

Wm. Allen “Al” Austin 68 of Monroe, NC, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2022 with family by his side.  He was born March 9, 1954 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to the late Charles R. and Shirley L. Austin.

While living in Indiana, Al attended Pike High School, graduating in 1972.  He worked as a salesman for The Mart, owned and operated Superior Maytag / Superior Video, a family-owned business, and worked as Assistant Manager for Highland and Montgomery Ward.  While living in Brown County, he owned and operated Nashville Car Care.

Allen was blessed with three daughters from his first marriage to Anne Youngblood (Parsons) – Kimberly Ann, Kelley Lynne and Kristin Michelle.

Allen celebrated 30 years of marriage to Jenni Phillips (Reeves) where they resided in Monroe, North Carolina, and where he retired from Yale in 2020 after working 17 years as a forklift mechanic.

Allen took great pride in his garden that he had every year, canning Hungarian wax peppers using his grandmother’s recipe.  He was an avid bowler bowling in several leagues with 277 being his highest score.  He enjoyed woodworking, playing blackjack at the casinos, but his favorite pastime was fishing where he could enjoy the outdoors.  He made several trips to Cadillac, Michigan to fish for salmon.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents (Charles R. and Shirley L. Austin) and a sister, (Kathy Brady).

He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Jenni; his daughters Kimberly Ann (Dan) Kappes; Kelley Lynne (Justin) Humphreys; Kristin Michelle (Adam) Young; stepchildren Jason and Janeen Phillips; fifteen grandchildren (Jake, Isaac, Danny Kappes; Addison and Miles Humphreys; Wesley, Willow, Winnie and Waylon Young; Katana and Trey Phillips, Anthony Galuski; Athena and Hank Cox, Briar Allen); a brother (Mark Austin); and two sisters (Debbie Brown and Tammy Keck); several nieces and nephews and many friends.

His daughters will miss and forever cherish the three words he always told them, “Love Ya Lots.”
