William David Brinnier, IV (age 65) passed away in Matthews, North Carolina, on Monday, June 28th, 2021. William (formally known as Billy) was born in Kingston, New York and raised in Saugerties, New York. Billy received his BA in Psychology from Union College, and his MA in Counseling Psychology at Marist College in 1985. He spent the majority of his adult life (1987-2015) teaching collegiate psychology in both New York and North Carolina.
Those who knew Billy knew how much he lived and breathed psychology. He was incredibly passionate and was known for his ability to have deep philosophical conversations. Billy was also a singer, songwriter and devoted guitar player. He loved classic rock and was a member of several different bands throughout his life.
Billy was also a major sports fan, always rooting for his favorite team, the New York Giants! Additionally, he was deeply devoted to the sport of golf. In 2012, he published a sports psychology book called “Phenomenal Golf: The INNER Art & Science of Being There.’” In 2013, Billy earned affiliate status with The United States Golf Teaching Federation (USGTF). He was very loved by his colleagues and friends at the Pebble Creek Club House in Matthews, North Carolina, where he worked as a professional golf instructor.
Although Billy grew up in Saugerties, his heart longed for the Adirondack Mountains. His favorite place was Brant Lake, New York, where he would often refer to as his home and his source of peace. He was a true Adirondack native, enjoying relaxing boat rides, reading peacefully by the water and early morning fishing trips.
Billy is survived by his father, William D. Brinnier, III; daughter, Hanna Brinnier; stepmother, Christine Brinnier; brother, Russell Brinnier and wife, Kathleen; step-brother; Robert Terwilliger; and his niece, Amber Brinnier. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sally Russell-Brinnier.
A time to celebrate Billy's life will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the Exchange Hotel, 217 Main Street, Saugerites, NY 12477.
