William M. Solomon, known affectionately as Bill, Pops, and Cowboy, was born on February 15, 1939, in Lorain, Ohio. He passed peacefully on January 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family after a short illness. Bill's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of love, kindness, and indelible memories shared with those fortunate enough to know him
Following a fulfilling career of 45 years, Bill retired from Lorain Products (Marconi/Emerson) in Lorain, Ohio, where he dedicated his days to shipping and receiving and served as a truck driver. After retirement, he moved to Locust, North Carolina, where he continued to be a vital part of the community at Family Sports and Fitness, opening the gym every morning to inspire others.
Bill's passions were varied and vibrant. He enjoyed many happy years on Lake Erie, where he embraced the beauty of life through boating, fishing, life guarding and water skiing. He also cherished camping and taking care of his physical health through weightlifting.
A man who loved his family deeply, Bill found joy in every moment spent with them. He welcomed everyone with open arms and never met a stranger. His warm, caring nature and willingness to give of himself endeared him to many. Bill's lightheartedness shone through his favorite response upon being greeted: "I'm not doing too bad for a young fella," a testament to his warmth and humorous nature.
Bill's proudest accomplishments extended beyond his professional life. Bill was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Lorain, where he sang in the choir, showcasing his love for music. He continued to contribute to his community, as a member of the VFW Post 8686, FOPA, Elks, and the Barbershop Harmony Society. In North Carolina, he found a new home at Saint Martin Lutheran Church, where he also sang in the choir and served on church council. His dedication to his community was further highlighted as he took on the roles in the Locust Lions Club and was the Ambassador for his assisted living facility, delighting prospective residents with heartfelt renditions of the Lord's Prayer.
He leaves behind a loving family that includes his son, Thomas M. Solomon and his wife Debra; daughter, Sharon (Solomon) Gotro; sister-in-law, Nancy J. Marsh; grandchildren, Samantha Solomon-Crump and her husband Aaron, Madison Gotro, Zachary Gotro, and Mia Gotro; great-grandchild, Austin Crump; and nephews and niece, David Solomon, Charles Solomon, and Andrea Solomon. Each of them carries forward his spirit of love, laughter, and kindness.
He is now reunited in peace with his beloved wife, Jean (Marsh) Solomon, who he cherished during their 40 years of marriage, as well as his parents, William B. Solomon and Lucille (Glime) Solomon, and his brother, David C. Solomon.
Bill Solomon's legacy will forever resonate in the memories of his family and friends. His generous heart and spirited nature will be missed but never forgotten, as he taught us all the true meaning of love and togetherness.
