William John Thomas was born to Edward and Violet Thomas on December 7, 1932, in Brownstown Township, Michigan. He passed away on July 17, 2023, in Matthews, North Carolina. William was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Margurete Bondie, Edward Thomas, Mildred Brochue, Donald Thomas, Robert Thomas, and Dorothy Morris. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marlene Thomas; his daughter, Candace Thomas; and his granddaughter, Abigail Thomas.
After high school, William joined the US Army, after which he worked as a fabricator and welder. He worked as a millwright at the Chrysler engine plant in Trenton, Michigan, and retired in 1994, after which he moved to Matthews, North Carolina.
William was a man of exceptional character, whose love for the outdoors was matched only by his love for his family and friends. His selflessness, coupled with his remarkable ability to help others, has left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was truly a great friend, a devoted husband, an inspiring father, and a cherished grandfather.
A memorial service will be held at Matthews Presbyterian Church (207 W John St, Matthews, NC 28105) on August 5 at 11 o’clock.
