Yvonne Spaulding Smith

Yvonne Marie Spaulding was born on September 14, 1956, and was raised in Pendleton, NC. 

Yvonne attended Johnson C. Smith University and pledged the Gamma Lambda chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts in Television Communications. This degree allowed her to meet the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Edward Smith, Jr.

Yvonne and Chuck were married on 1/18/1983. They went on to have a son, Collin Edward Smith, on 08/19/1987. 

In 1996, a friend of Yvonne's led Chuck and Yvonne to Central Church in Charlotte, NC, where they were involved in numerous ministries. 

One of Yvonne's biggest callings was helping people. Up until 1997, she worked at the Department of Social Services. While working at Atrium Health, Yvonne devoted 20 years to the Mental Health community. In September 2021, Yvonne continued her community work at Roof Above, finding housing for those in need.

Yvonne loved going to the beach with Chuck and visiting Topsail Island. She loved listening to music, and Chuck created special playlists for her. She loved spending time with her son Collin, as he would take her out to dinner often, and call to check on her every day, especially after her husband passed. Her granddaughter, Leila, was her pride and joy. Grammy, as she wanted to be called, loved playing with Leila, singing to her, holding her, laughing with her, and shopping for her, and had a special touch when it came to rocking her to sleep. 

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents Oscar Spaulding, Sr. and Ethelyn Spaulding (née Wilson), and by her husband Chuck. Yvonne leaves behind her brother Oscar (Sylvia) Spaulding Jr., her loving son Collin Smith and daughter-in-law Gwendolyn Smith (née Oliver), one granddaughter, Leila Marie Smith, and a host of family and close friends who have journeyed with her together. Her spunk, no-nonsense way of talking and her fierce love for her family, and her husband will be greatly missed.
