Zach Lineberger

July 11, 1984 — February 8, 2014

Zachary Vernon Lineberger, 29, of Charlotte, passed away February 8, 2014. His immediate family includes his parents, Henry V. (Vern) Lineberger, III, and Nancy Pechal Lineberger; paternal grandmother, Mary Jean Lineberger; maternal grandfather, Frank Pechel; his brother, Todd Elliott Lineberger; sisters, Ryan Elizabeth Lineberger Love and Anna Catherine Linebe Zachary Vernon Lineberger was born on July 11, 1984 at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh, NC. Zach was the first son; born with unique features who developed into a unique individual. As a toddler, Zach was nicknamed ‘monkey man' for his ability to climb in and out of every place his mom put him. Zach went to preschool at First Baptist Church in Cary, NC with his ‘partner in crime' David Hobbs. Zach was a ‘boys boy' he loved to play ‘policeman', build forts, ‘boats' and wear his cowboy boots with shorts every single day. Zach loved to sit on the tractor and do ‘work' with his grandfather, Henry Lineberger. Zach was his ‘sisters' beloved little brother and friend. As a child, Zach had no fear. He grabbed many snakes from outside to show neighborhood kids and keep as temporary pets. Zach's love for the outdoors continued as he grew. He went on many camping trips with his Dad and younger brother, Todd. Zach loved to hike the Linville Gorge and poke sticks in the fire. Zach attended McKee Road Elementary and later the Fletcher School, where he met many important friends. Zach worked hard in school and wanted to excel. Zach's love for travel developed as a child during trips out west with his sister and maternal grandparents. Zach was an animal lover; he always had a special dog. Zach attended Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. While attending Catawba Zach often drove to Mooresville to visit his grandparents and great aunt and uncle. Zach's biggest fan was his grandfather, Henry Lineberger. Like many others, Henry, saw in Zach a potential to be successful at whatever he chose. Zach was arguably the most ambitious and determined of all the children. After a year at Catawba, Zach was accepted at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. Tulane offered Zach an impressive academic scholarship. Being ‘Wolfpack' born and bred, Zach turned down his acceptance at Tulane for the opportunity to attend NCSU in Raleigh, NC as a business major. Zach had a ‘business mind' but a heart for history. He loved almost any and everything surrounding WWII. Zach accumulated and read a ‘library's worth' of books about WWII. Zach's love for WWII history took him to Austria, Germany and Poland. Zach taught himself German and was fluent in the language. In addition to WWII, Zach loved to cook. He was a fantastic chef and loved to share his dishes with friends and family. Zach would plan and devise menus for all occasions and followed up with delicious food. One of Zach's greatest gifts was his ability to make people laugh. He always had a way of bringing humor to a situation. Zach could make you laugh so hard you cried. Zach's love of family was never a question. He was a Lineberger and very proud of it.
